6000 V three-phase squirrel cage motors as conveyor drive in coal power plant

A series of robust three-phase cage motors with efficient cooling for coal mills, conveyor belts and flue gas desulphurization plants were needed to modernize various coal power plants in Romania.

MENZEL Elektromotoren produced various medium- and high-voltage motors for various Romanian power plants, amongst others two identical 6000V three-phase squirrel cage motors in cooling mode IC 511 for a conveyor belt drive.

IC 511 motors - the ideal solution for conveyor drive applications

In the face of falling coal chunks, the round housing of the IC 511 tube cooled motors proved to be an ideal solution for an application as conveyor drives in a coal-fired power plant. Stainless steel cooling tubes that are concentrically arranged around the active part of the motor, work as an air-to-air heat exchanger. Falling materials simply slide off the smooth, rounded surface. Unlike with other cooling types, the cooling fins cannot be blocked.

Due to the use of torsional rigid welded steel housing, low and high voltage squirrel cage motors of cooling type IC 511 are ideal for use in harsh conditions with load shocks and vibrations.
